Titan Mechanical Services is a leading water hygiene services provider. We work as a subcontractor in the water treatment industry and with large facilities nationwide. As part of the comprehensive water hygiene services we specialise in; we offer a full suite of RPZ valve services for your facilities' water system. Our RPZ valve services include RPZ valve installation, RPZ maintenance and RPZ valve testing. RPZ testing should be carried out yearly.
You may require RPZ valve services as a part of yearly maintenance, after a Legionella risk assessment, or as part of Legionella remedial works. Below, we have put together a guide to help you understand more about installation, testing and maintenance of RPZ valves and what to expect during RPZ testing.
What are RPZ valves?
Reduced pressure zone valves are fitted into potable water systems as a backflow preventer of the mains water supplies. Without RPZ valves, in the occurrence of a sudden lowering of pressure in the water system, the water could flow in the opposite direction, causing contaminated water to enter the supply. If a sudden drop in water pressure occurs; RPZ valves will dump the contaminated water and prevent it from entering into the water supply.
RPZ valves are commonly used in public facilities including schools, car washes, hospitals, food processing areas, launderettes, and even commercial dishwashers.
Potable water systems are designed to hold water which is suitable for human consumption. Therefore, they must comply with the highest standards of water hygiene. It is required that RPZ valves are tested on an annual basis.
A potable water system holds water that is to be used for human consumption.
RPZ valves are an important backflow preventer. This means they prevent water flowing backwards within your water system and act as an important component in keeping your water system hygiene and Legionella compliant. RPZ valve testing and maintenance should be carried out at least every 12 months, within 30 days of the date your current certificate ends. At Titan Mechanical Services, our WRAS approved valve engineers can carry out yearly testing and also install new RPZ valves. If you are unsure of which RPZ valve service you require, you can get in touch with our friendly team for advice.
RPZ valve testing is usually a quick process. It takes approximately 30 minutes. However, as this depends on the number of RPZ valves and the facilities in particular, you will be given more accurate information by your engineer.

Under the Water Industry Act 1991, if you own premises with a water supply you are legally required to ensure that there is an appropriate device installed that acts as a backflow preventer of water. The installation, regular testing and servicing of RPZ valves will help to ensure Legionella contamination risks are managed effectively.
RPZ valve installation and maintenance must be completed by a qualified and WRAS approved tester. At Titan Mechanical, all our remedial work and water hygiene services are carried out by highly trained experts who meet industry standards.
RPZ testing is carried our by WRAS approved valve engineers (RPZ testers) to ensure that your RPZ valve is working as it should. We will visit your facility and determine whether your RPZ valve passes the test, needs repairing or needs replacing.
