Can a product that is certified by KIWA and not by WRAS, still be used in the UK?

Yes, a product certified by KIWA (specifically under the KIWA KUKreg4 certification) can be used in the UK even if it does not have WRAS certification.

Both WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) and KIWA KUKreg4 are respected certifications within the UK that ensure water fittings and systems comply with the UK Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999.

These regulations are designed to prevent the misuse, waste, and contamination of drinking water. While WRAS certification has traditionally been the more widely recognised standard, KIWA KUKreg4 offers equivalent testing, verification, and assurance of compliance with UK water regulations.

In summary:

  • Both certifications validate compliance: Both WRAS and KIWA KUKreg4 certifications are recognised by UK authorities for compliance with water fittings regulations.

  • Equivalent standards of testing: KIWA KUKreg4 meets the same rigorous testing standards as WRAS, meaning products with KIWA certification are just as reliable for use within the UK.

  • Industry familiarity: Historically, WRAS has been more commonly known and requested by industry professionals, making it the more popular certification in the UK. However, KIWA is becoming more widely accepted and recognised as a reliable equivalent, particularly in cases where products certified by KIWA meet all required standards.

  • Acceptance by UK regulators: Since KIWA KUKreg4 fully meets the UK’s water fittings regulations, products certified by KIWA are acceptable as alternatives to WRAS-approved products.

While WRAS remains the more widely recognised name, KIWA certification is equally valid for ensuring water fittings meet UK safety and compliance standards.
